Concrete Bags to Cubic Yards Calculator

Convert between premix concrete bags and cubic yards — 40, 60 and 80 lb — so you can compare bagged mixes against a ready-mix delivery.
—
Yields are the approximate volumes printed by the bag manufacturers. Confirm the exact yield for the product you buy.
Bag yields at a glance
| Bag size | Yield (approx.) | Bags per cubic yard |
| 80 lb | 0.60 ft³ | 45 |
| 60 lb | 0.45 ft³ | 60 |
| 40 lb | 0.30 ft³ | 90 |
How the conversion works
One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, and each bag yields a fixed volume of mixed concrete:
cubic yards = bags × yield ÷ 27
bags = cubic yards × 27 ÷ yield
When converting a calculator result into bags, add 5–10% for uneven subgrades, spillage and over-excavation before rounding up to whole bags.
Bags or ready-mix?
Bags make sense up to roughly one cubic yard; beyond that, mixing time and labour outweigh delivery minimums. For the full comparison — minimum loads, short-load fees and site questions — read the guide to how concrete is ordered and delivered, or get a volume with waste included from the concrete bags calculator.
